Water Damage? Here's your first step

5/10/2022 (Permalink)

Unlike fire, water damage can happen even with the best preventative measures. A small leak can increase the cost of water up to 10%. Depending on whether or not the leak was caught in time, the damage can silently spread until it is too late.

Before we begin, let’s go through some preventative measures you can take in order to reduce the likelihood of water damage in your home or office. Do not take the chance! A $20 billion-dollar annual issue is what we are dealing with. Not only must we worry about electrical appliances, but we also need to confront the reality of damage to the structural integrity of a facility or home and mold!

Reduce your chance of water damage

To make sure of the reduced possibility of water damage, you must update water supply lines especially in older buildings. Contact roofing services, even for seemingly small damage! In the chance of rain, water will leak through any small opening causing an unknown scale of damage.

Clean and maintain gutters. If the downspout pipes do not carry water 2ft or more away from the building, get it extended! Also, take note of the vegetation on the property. Tree limbs can cause a lot of damage. Trim some trees for your safety.

In an emergency, the very first action that should be taken is shutting off the water valve. Shutting off all supplies of water to the building will allow you some time to locate and assess the damage. Contact your insurance provider in order for them to properly take the steps necessary for the issue to be resolved.

Do not attempt to remedy the issue on your own! There are a huge range of risks when dealing with water damage. It is best left to those trained for this.
